Critique: Farmers market Saturday, 14 frames

Fourteen frames from a market morning at the State Farmers Market: three keepers, the crops that saved two more, and the pattern in the misses.

The set

Fourteen frames from the Z6III and the 28mm, all on the Gray Day Standard recipe, between 8:10 and 9:40. Three are keepers; two more work with a crop. The rest share one problem.

Keepers

The farmer weighing sweet potatoes under the shed roof is the best frame of the morning: the light from the open side does the work and the hands are sharp. The stacked pumpkin crates have strong rhythm. The man reading the paper on the tailgate is quiet and well placed.

The pattern in the misses

Seven of the nine misses are shot from standing eye height straight down the aisle. The scenes are good but the camera always sits in the same spot. Get lower, get closer, or shoot across the aisle instead of along it.

For next time

Pick one stall and stay twenty minutes. The best frame came from waiting, not walking.
