Keeper rate by lens

Which lens and camera produce the most keepers per outing, and whether the zoom earns its weight.

Updated 1 min read

The result

28mm f/2.8: 8 percent keepers. 70-180mm f/2.8: 9 percent. 24-70mm f/4: 6 percent. Coolpix P1100: 4 percent.

Reading it

The P1100 is used for distant birds, where most frames are bursts and heat shimmer takes its share, so a low rate is expected. Per outing it still yields the most usable photos of birds on open water.

The sold lens

The 50mm prime that was sold in spring had a 3 percent rate across 40 outings, and the 70-180mm covers its portraits. Selling it was the right call.
