Why I keep shooting the same three blocks

A short essay on repetition, Five Points, and what a year on the same route teaches.

The route

Three blocks of Glenwood Avenue around Five Points, from the old theater to the bus stop. I walk them most mornings with the 28mm. Same shops, same bus stop, same corner.

What changes

Everything that is not the buildings. The light moves across the storefronts through the year. The people change with the season and the day of the week. The sidewalk is a stage that resets every morning.

What it teaches

With the scenery solved, all of the attention goes to timing and to people. The best pictures of the year came from waiting on a corner I had walked past two hundred times.
