The U positions

U1 Street: aperture priority at f/8, Gray Day Standard (C-1), auto ISO to 6400 with a 1/250 s minimum, AF-C with people detection. U2 Birds: manual at f/2.8 and 1/1000 s with auto ISO, AF-C in wide-area (S) with animal detection, high-speed continuous. U3 Family indoors: aperture priority wide open, Soft Rich Tone (C-2), AF-C with people detection and eye detection on.

Buttons

AF-ON on the back for focus, with the shutter button set to release only. Fn1 switches subject detection; Fn2 holds the AF-area mode. The i menu holds Picture Control, white balance, Active D-Lighting and the release mode.

Keep them safe

Use Save/load menu settings to write the settings to the card after every change, and keep a copy on the laptop. A firmware update can reset them.
